Board Game Day at Table Top Makers

Board Game Day at Table Top Makers

There’s nothing like gathering a group of people and playing a game together.

Is there anything better than getting a group together and playing a game?  Alan hosted a board game day at the Table Top Makers shop a few months ago.  Just a small gathering of friends, old and new, to hang out, sip on yummy adult beverages, and enjoy a game of strategy and chance.  The five of us had a good time playing on one of the unfinished, custom-designed Fighter tables sitting in the shop.

We played Xia: Legends of a Drift System with all of its expansions by Far Off Games.  Table Top Makers partnered with Far Off Games several years ago at Grand Con Gaming Convention for a tournament with a fantastic grand prize.  The proceeds of this tournament went to a local charity.  So it seemed to be a natural choice for our group to play for our game day.  Three of the players at the table own a copy of Xia, including Alan.  We enjoyed delicious pizza from a local place and good conversation as we raced each other to become the most famous captain in the system.  The game ended up being relatively close in points, and the winner was only ahead by a little, creating an exciting challenge for all of us.

That’s the point of gaming; strategic challenge, active entertainment, and social interaction.  It often doesn’t matter who wins or loses, so long as everyone has fun.  Whatever kinds of games you enjoy, from 4x to CCGs, RPGs to deck builders, from family games to worker placement, there’s a benefit to having a group of people to sit down and play with from time to time.  You can escape the real world for a while and throw yourself into the challenge of the game.

Table Top Makers’ hand-crafted hardwood tables are perfect for any gaming group.  If you don’t think you have enough room in your abode for such a table, put a request in any way, Alan makes custom orders for different sized tables all the time.  They look great in any room and can turn that space into a place of fun, laughter, and friendly competition.

What are some of your favorite games to play with your group?  Let us know in the comment section.
